NTIA's MANDATE
- Serve as the President's principal advisor on telecommunications policy, trade, and technology issues.
- Develop and promulgate telecommunications and information policy.
- Manage and coordinate efficient use of Federal radio frequency spectrum.
- Provide National Information Infrastructure (NII), Public Telecommunications Facilities Program (PTFP), and National Endowment for Children's Educational Television (NECET) grants.
- Promote transfer and commercialization of Federal telecommunications technology.
- Provide leadership and contributions to domestic and internatonal standardization.
- Coordinate Federal telecommunications activities.
- Conduct engineering and policy research.
The Institute for Telecommunication Sciences provides NTIA with the scientific, engineering, and technological competence to support these efforts.
