Directory User Agent (DUA)

An X.500 client is known as a Directory User Agent, or DUA. The server part of this client/server relationship is known as the Directory System Agent, or DSA. DUA's allow users to query the DSA for information contained in the X.500 Directory.

There are two basic protocols used between the DSA and the various DUAs. The Directory Access Protocol (DAP) and the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) are the current protocols supported by the Dryden X.500 DSA.
