New version of Quanta released
The molecular Modeling program, Quanta, that runs on ALW SGI clients has been upgraded to version 4.0. February 7, 1995
Texted-based WWW browser
The ALW System now supports 'lynx', a text-based WWW browser, on all it's platforms. January 12, 1995
Mlab upgrade on ALW
The MLAB software has been uprgaded to the 12/12/94 release version. January 10, 1995
Macsyma upgraded on ALW
The Macsyma software on ALW has been upgraded to version 419. This version of Macsyma has a new X-window interface among other new features. This new interface should make using Macsyma easier to use than the previous version. Sept 13, 1994
Fiscal Year 95 ALW System Rates Announced
New ALW System fees for FY95 have been announced. The FY starts on Oct 1, 1994.

AVS 5.0.5 released on Sun, HP and SGI ALW clients
AVS has been upgraded from 5.0.1 and is executable via the command avs.

Licencing Restrictions Announced for all ALW HP Users
Licensing policy restrictions for HP workstation users has been announced warning users that some HP software has a restricted used and is not available to everyone.

Lotus 123 makes debut on ALW SGI systems
The popular PC spreadsheet program becomes available on ALW SGI systems. One can find it on the ALW Toolchest under "Desktop Tools" or run it directly, "123".

Mail reader Pine
The mail reader Pine has been made available on SGI ALW clients. It is currently available in beta test on all other architectures. This mail reader will read mail in sendmail format (non-AMDS [messages]) and understands some MIME formats.
ALW WWW Server Usage
ALW WWW server usage statistic reports have been made available via the ALW WWW Home page.

SoftWindows v1.0 on Silicon Graphics clients
SoftWindows emulates a high specification IBM PC/AT or compatible, and is supplied with Windows 3.1 already installed and ready for use. Unix directories can be accessable with alternate drive letters (e.g. H: is your UNIX home directory).

Any ALW SGI user can find it in the ALW Toolchest under Desktop Tools or by entering softwindows on the command line.

SAS v6.07 on Silicon Graphics clients
Any ALW SGI user can find it in the ALW Toolchest under the new Statistics menu or by entering sas on the command line.

S-Plus has been moved from the Mathematics menu to the Statistics menu.

New programs released for ALW Sun Sparc clients
- AFS has been upgraded to version 3.3
- Expect version 5.5
- FrameMaker version 4.0
- Gnu software including gcc, gdb, gfind and gmake
- Ispell vesion 4.0
- Tcl version 7.3
- Tk version 3.6
- Mosaic version 2.2 as well as updates to multimedia viewing programs like xv, and mpeg_play.

Splus v3.10 on SGIs
Splus v3.10 is now available via remote access on SGIs. Any ALW SGI user can find it in the ALW Toolchest under Mathematics or by entering splus on the command line.
