Linksys Ether16 LAN Card Software Setup Instructions for Microsoft Windows 95 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright (C) 1994-1996 Linksys, All Rights Reserved -------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONTENTS -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before You Begin Installing the Network Drivers for Windows 95 How to Get Technical Support -------------------------------------------------------------------------- BEFORE YOU BEGIN -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before attempting to install the Ether16 LAN Card's network software drivers, you should configure the card's internal settings with the SETUP utility included on the Ether16 disk. To configure the card: 1. Get to the DOS command prompt (C:\>). It is important that you have a "clean bootup" with no network drivers loaded. If possible, bypass all of your system's startup files and get to a DOS prompt. If you are using Windows, close it down completely (select File, then Exit from the Program Manager menu). Do NOT run the Setup program from within a DOS window. If you are using Windows 95, restart your PC. Hit the F8 key when "Starting Windows 95..." appears on your screen. Select "Command Prompt Only" from the menu that appears. When your system continues booting again, press the F5 key to bypass all of your startup files. 2. Insert the Ether16 disk into drive A: or B:. Then, from the DOS prompt, type A:SETUP or B:SETUP and press the Enter key. 3. Select "Configure the Ether16 LAN Card Hardware" option from the menu. Configure the card's I/O, IRQ, and connector type settings (you can use the auto configure function if you want). When you're finished, restart your computer and follow the network software driver setup instructions shown below. Important Note: When you configure the card's hardware, write down the IRQ and I/O memory address that you use. You'll need to make sure that your network software is configured so that it uses these same values before your workstation will be able to communicate with the network. 4. After the card has been set up, your PC will restart itself. Connect your network cabling to the card and then run the Setup program again. Run the Setup program's basic diagnostics on the card to make sure that the hardware has been installed correctly. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Installing the Network Drivers for Windows 95 -------------------------------------------------------------------- You can install the Ether16 with either Windows 95's own internal network drivers, or with the drivers that are supplied on the Ether16 LAN Card disk. Installing the Network Drivers supplied by Windows 95 ----------------------------------------------------- 1. Allow Windows 95 to start up. If 95 displays a "new hardware detected" message and indicates that it has found an NE2000-compatible network card, skip to step 3 below. If no message appears, continue with step 2 instead. 2.
