News
- 3/11/2003: The archive server satpix.nottingham.ac.uk has been closed down.
- 5/11/2002: The equipment has ceased functioning, and the service has been suspended.
- 1/11/2002: Links to the main web-server have been restored. Image
collection is presently very unrealiable, and quality is poor. We are
unable to devote any resources to improve this situation at present.
- 30/10/2002: Image collection has resumed, and can be seen on the
satpix server. The link to the main web-server is still having problems.
- 29/10/2002: Images have not been collected since about
14:00 on 28/10/2002. The system will be checked in the near future to see
if the service can be restored.
- 28/10/2002: There has been a problem with links to the main web-server since 23/10/2002. The satpix server is still collecting and archiving images. The main web-server service will be resumed as soon as possible.
- 21/6/2002: The second receiver was put back in service on 7/6/2002, and full disk images have been collected since then. Quality of pictures has been variable. It is unlikely that further work will be done on the system until the
autumn at the earliest.
- 20/5/2002: Archives were incomplete due to a file sharing problem.
This should now be resolved. Full disk images have not been collected
since 4/4/2002 due to a faulty receiver. It is hoped that this receiver
will be back in service soon. It is still not clear why general image
quality has been degraded over the last 2 months.
- 26/3/2002: Images have been of poor quality since 19/3. We are investigating the causes.
- 22/08/2001: The full set of images is being collected, as from 21/08/2001.
- 16/08/2001: It appears that full disk images are not being collected, as of 9/8/2001. We hope to be able to investigate the causes soon.
- 13/08/2001: The service was interrupted from 9/8/2001 due to accidental powering off of the satpix server. The service has now been restored, apologies for any inconvenience.
- 3/08/2001: The faulty receiver (see 4/05/2001) has been repaired and
was re-installed at about midday on 2/08/2001. The full set of images is now being collected.
- 16/07/2001: Due to a file sharing problem on the meteosat systems,
arhives from 10/07/2001 may be incomplete. It is hoped that these archives
will be restored shortly. Apologies for any inconvenience.
- 4/05/2001: We have concluded that one of the receivers has been malfunctioning, and causing interference. From midday 3/05/2001 we have been using only
one receiver, and the images look much better. The disadvantage of this is that we are no longer collecting some of the images, namely the full disk images.
(xTOT,LY,LR,LZ,GMSx). If we manage to replace the faulty receiver, we will
restore the full service, but these images will be unavailable for now.
- 3/05/2001: The system continues to be somewhat temperamental. We are
renewing our investigations into possible causes.
- 23/04/2001: Reception has been poor for several days, and has now ceased without obvious cause. We shall re-examine the equipment tomorrow (24th April).
- 15/02/2001: Reception has improved after some minor adjustments to the equipment. Please see the announcement on recent problems.
- 24/01/2001: After a few weeks of good reception, image collection
has been erratic this week. We think we may be closer to identifying the
faulty component(s) however.
- 20/12/2000: Image collection has resumed, after a few days interruption. We are investigating the problems, and will try and acquire spare equipment so the service can be more reliable in future. We have received dozens of
messages of support, which may be crucial in obtaining the necessary funds.
- 11/12/2000: Image collection has resumed, though images are not
of a very high quality, and some are still not being received at all. We
are endeavouring to improve the situation.
- 5/12/2000: Image collection has been intermittent over the last few days, but no images at all have been received since approx 13:30 on 4/12/2000.
- 27/11/2000: Image collection has been interrupted from approx

the signal processing equipment. The fault is being investigated, but it
is impossible to state when the service will resume. Apologies for the
inconvenience this will cause
- 10/11/2000: Image transfers to the main website are now proceeding
satisfactorily.

low quality. We hope to check the systems on thursday (9/11/2000).
- 7/11/2000: The collection of images has been interrupted. We
suspect this is due to adverse weather conditions at the antenna, but we are
not able to check the system at present.
- 6/10/2000: The quality of images has improved to a reasonable level
and collection of archived images appears to be back to normal.
- 2/10/2000: The collection of images was interrupted from approx
19:30 on 30/9/2000. This may have been due to a thunder storm in our vicinity. Image collection has re-started, but the quality of images has been considerably reduced. We are investigating the situation.
