----------------------------------------- Welcome to The Journeyman Project Turbo ----------------------------------------- Please take a minute to read over the following information. It has been provided to help you configure an optimized system for playing the game. The Journeyman Project Turbo is a very memory-intensive game. With the amount of graphics that Journeyman will be sending to your screen, it needs every bit of CPU time that it can have. In order to have an enjoyable experience, you should quit any other applications that you have running before playing. If you are getting Insufficient Memory Errors, try increasing the size of your Windows swapfile. To increase the size of your swapfile, click on the "386 Enhanced" icon in the Windows Control Panel and select "Virtual Memory". A general guideline to follow is to make your swapfile at least twice the size of the amount of physical memory installed in your system. See your Windows documentation for more detailed information. The Journeyman Project Turbo makes extensive use of Video for Windows. We have provided the latest version of the Video for Windows Runtime, 1.1a on this CD in the WINVIDEO subdirectory for your convenience. Enhanced video card drivers that provide Video for Windows acceleration are highly recommended. Conversely, if you are having speed or reliability problems with the game, updated video card drivers may solve your problem. Contact your video card manufacturer for availability of updated video drivers. A special note for Compaq ProLinea users. The on-board VGA adapter will not work with Video for Windows 1.1a in 640x480 resolution. To solve the problem, simply change your video mode to 800x600 or 1024x768. This application uses a great deal of digitized sound. If you are experiencing popping when sound is playing, you will need to increase the amount of memory that MCI will use to buffer sound. To change this, select Drivers in your Control Panel, and select "[MCI] Sound" from the list of drivers presented. The default setting is enough memory for 4 seconds of audio. It is suggested that you increase this setting to 9 seconds of audio. Journeyman Turbo has been fully optimized to run as fast as possible. However, there will still be points at which your computer will need to load large amounts of data off of the CD-ROM. When this happens, you will not be able to move. How will you know? Watch for these signs... - The cursor may disappear or change to an hourglass - The red arrow movement button may be lit - The access light on your CD-ROM may light up Any of these signs is a signal telling you to wait. As soon as the computer has finished its loading process, you will be ready to adventure again. If the game seems unbearably slow, it may be because you have a slow CD-ROM drive. An access time of 350ms or faster, and a sustained data transfer rate of 150K per second are recommended (call your drive manufacturer if you have questions). Even though Journeyman Turbo is over three times faster than the original, there may still be significant lag times if your drive cannot meet these specifications. If you want to see Journeyman perform as fast as possible, and if you (by some fortunate alignment of the planets) happen to have 540 free MB of hard drive space, you can copy the entire game to your hard drive for optimal load time performance. You will need to keep the same directory structure under the SUPPORT directory, and you will need to modify JMAN.INI in your Windows subdirectory to point to the new path instead of the CD. When you do this, you will be able to really scream through the environments. As a general rule, SAVE YOUR GAME OFTEN. There are many ways to die during the course of the game. The average player will find enough of them to make it worth while to learn how to save their game early. Technical support for The Journeyman Project Turbo is provided by Sanctuary Woods Multimedia.
