As most other packs
this month, there wasn't anything really exciting. Having
that said, the pack was definitely not bad. Overall it was
an excellent pack, just that nothing really excelled (that
applies to all packs this month).
I'll get off with the best
at once. Shere Khan's pic is an exception, it's marvellous.
Designing the intertwining and make the bodies fit and melt
together is almost genius! And their shaping a heart in
the middle to boot. The one pushing the other up shaping
the heart looks strained. I think the meaning of the pic
might be representing the difficulties and emotional strains
love can bring sometimes.
Diamond's pic of the trees
in perspective is nice. The way they shrink in a path looking
like the positive side of a squareroot function (yeah, I'm
an engineer..) sets an interesting view on it all, and it
really gives the feeling of infinity.
YoYo is just getting better
all the time. She already has the imagination and ideas,
all she needs is some refining of her painting technique,
and in this pack her pics are more detailed than ever. 2507yoyo.jpg
is one of her pest pieces so far. It represents so much.
Being prisoner in a "deep" prison (your small
shitty life), and then climbing the ladder to get a better
view (trying to get a better life), just to discover you
have barred windows that stops you from reaching out (your
life is really miserable, duh!). Graphically it really good
too, the lighting and shading, the sense of depth and all
those little bricks (or rather big ones)!
I really hope Sprocket doesn't
quit the scene, that would be a big loss for us. He's being
more pic orientated nowadays, and they're just as imaginative
and well designed as his logos. The Son of Typography is
neat, with the bookcase hanging over the guys head.
The packs only joint pic is
pretty neat too. Combining YoYo's and Sprockets styles can't
go wrong. Both of them have really great ideas, and very
refined styles.
Bon's ink(?) work doesn't appeal
to me at all. They're not really simplistic, and not really
detailed either. They're something in between and look quit
empty. There isn't really any unique style either, just
pictures.
The rest of the pack was pretty
good too, just not much to comment. The HellRaiser group
brings the artscene to new levels (read Root88's intro).

HRG had an outstanding pack this month. Almost every image
was an excellent piece of artwork, not just someone trying
to show off what a computer can do. The work in this pack
seemed as if careful planning was used in each image to
achieve an aesthetic result. A major problem with artists
new to the digital canvas is that they just play with all
the buttons and features in an application until they come
across something that looks "neat". While these "neat" pics
might impress your mom or classmates, digital art vets like
the artists in HRG can see right though them. If you a new
to the seen and want to know want makes an image great,
head right for hrg-25.zip.
2502SK.GIF was impressive.
The positions of the bodies and the way they interlocked
was elegant and lewd at the same time. Fascinating.
2507YOYO.JPG is my favorite
pic from YoYo yet. All her other pics were great, I especially
liked her joint with Theater. It was definitely a great
month for YoYo in every respect, she really seems to have
reached another level in her work.
2509LICE.JPG from God
Among Lice very well done. He chose a good pose to work
from and I think it turned out well, much nicer than what
we saw from him last month.
I also enjoyed 2512SPRO.JPG,
his work is always interesting and well done. Sprocket mentioned
quitting the scene, the .NFO in the pack touched on this,
but did not give a definite answer. I hope we can all enjoy
his artwork for years, or at least months to come.
