A
Mouse in Sydney
by dangermouse
(end of last year.. :>)
Im
writing this article in a perpetual state of slumber..
Yes, im half asleep, and for good reason, since last night
I was on a bus for a good part of 15 hours, travelling from
Sydney, to my natural habitat, Brisbane. The following is
a doodleboys memoirs over four days..
DAY
ONE
This
morning I got up at the ridiculous hour of 4:00am. My
dad and I had to be at the train station by 5:15am to catch
a train (naturally enough) into the city proper, to intercept
our Brisbane-Sydney train. Of course, of all days it had
to be news years day, and forgetting this vital information
we missed our train! (Different times on public hols).
Upon
inspection of the nearby Telstra Public Phone, which
was stuffed, I whipped out my trusty company mobile phone,
and called a cab quick shit..
Arriving
at the city station, we proceeded to the train, and
to our check-in point. Whilst in the que, our bloody luggage
decided to go everywhere, so yeah, that pissed me off further..
On
the train: My dad and I boarded the train without incident,
though upon finding our seats, we also found a daft old
lady sitting there.. We quickly shooed her away, only to
see her go to another seat that wasn't hers!
We
sat down.. The couple behind us had a screaming child..
From this point I could see the day had been cursed by the
doodle-gods..
Hours
and hours and hours later: The country never seems to
change, ie. trees, trees, trees, trees, trees, trees, town,
trees, trees, trees, trees, nudist, trees, hang on.. woops..
Yeah, soon enough I find myself wanting to the use the thunderbox.
Upon finding it, I wish I hadn't.. Besides putting up with
the rancid stench, I had to somehow strain the schlong whilst
being thrown around like a stupid sloth a thunderous hail
storm.. Not a pleasant experience..
I
suppose the only good thing about the trip down was the
chick in front of me.. She wasn't too bad, so that gave
me something to put my mind on..
15
hours later, we finally arrive in Sydney. The god damn
train station in like a maze. Having to find a train to
the proper station required me straining my extensive knowledge
of jibberish to the limits.. Somehow, we got to our Hotel,
the Wynard Vista, without mishap after this utterly bodgy
day..
DAY TWO
The
big day! Today I was going down to the Museum of Contempory
Art to attend a snazy doo, the launch of LOUD (A festival
of youth in culture and the arts -- damn cool shit). Some
of you may know of The Chickenator, which one a prize in
LOUD, and hence me being in Sydney..
I
turned up wearing my flash long sleave shirt, tie and good
pants.. Upon entering the establishment, I said to the
person at the door (official type person),
"Excuse
me, do you know where the LOUD launch is thanks?"
"Uh,
no, I've never heard of it, its not here, we've only got
the Yves Klien exhibition I'm sorry", said the hapless
door-person..
Feeling
dejected, and well, rather silly, I left the place to wander
around a bit.. I came back 15 mintues later to find
the LOUD launch was infact on, and get this, right across
the hall from the batty women that told me that it wasn't
on..
Upon
entering the large hall, I immediately felt a bit overdressed..
Everywhere I looked people were wearing 'down', going the
alternative look that many young designers go for.. Heh..
Oh well..
Well, I found the guy that was the Online Co-ordinator,
and one of the Noise editor's, Jacinta (who ended up being
pretty nice). Heh.. The launch ended up being pretty cool,
me handing out my trusty business cards every chance I got.
Later
on there was an after launch party at some pub, with
me downing free pizza and beer ;) That was pretty cool..
The rest of the day was spent doing nothing..
DAY
THREE
Today
my Dad and I wondered around the city of Sydney..
We tried to get into the big AMP Tower type thing, but couldn't
cause it was 'too windy'..
Later
on I met up with two Sydney sceners in the forms of oxidizer
and cyrogenic. You may remember oxi from blade, being
ascii co-ord. We all went and watched Alien Ressurection,
which I might add, I loved.. (Plenty of gore and sci-fi
action never amiss). That was all we pretty much did together,
cause like, we were povo :)
DAY FOUR
Oh
goody, the return home! The only problem was that I
was going on a bloody bus for 15 hours. Well, when me and
dad got on the bus, I went pleasantly surprised to see a
nice chick in the opposite seat across the aisle, so that
put a smile on my face.. Her legs and, oh boy.. :)
Trying
to get to sleep on a bus would have to be the most annoying
thing I've ever had to accomplish, cause once you actually
find a bearable posisition and go to sleep, you awaken again
to be even more tired.. Go figure..
Sydney
was good and bad.. The trips sucked, but down there
it was pretty cool.. The highlights were definitely the
LOUD launch and finally meeting oxidizer and cryogenic..
