NAME

dvidoc - display TeX DVI files on character devices

SYNOPSIS

dvidoc [ -e ] [ -sstartpage ] [ -mmaxpages ] dvifile

DESCRIPTION

Dvidoc attempts to display the contents of a DVI file on a character device, e.g. a tty. The output will not be an exact representation of the DVI file since TeX output is designed for high-resolution devices. Math mode and tables are not handled well. Also, line and page breaks will be different when output to a high-resolution device.

The -e flag produces an error report on file.err where file is the basename of the DVI file.

The -s flag allows a starting page to be specified in the form \count0[.\count1[.\count2]]. * is a wildcard. Remember to escape metacharacters.

The -m flag allows the number of pages to output to be specified.

The suffix .dvi is optional in the file spec.

To use dvidoc you must input the macro file docmac.tex at the beginning of your TeX document or include the style option dvidoc in the \documentstyle line of your LaTeX document. This file redefines the width of the roman, italic, boldface and typewriter fonts as well as some key parameters. When you wish to output the final document to the laser printer or other high resolution device you should remove the includes and reprocess your document.
