System Configuration

Most of today's computer systems determine the drive type (cylinders, heads, and sectors per track) automatically and configure themselves at start-up. You may, however, choose to configure your system manually. Manual configuration is a 3-step process:

  1. Run the system Set-up program to enter the drive's specifications. Refer to your system manual for details.
  2. Partition the drive using FDISK (a program on the DOS Program diskette). Refer to your DOS manual for details. Note that Micropolis drives are low-level formatted at the factory; no low-level formatting is required.
  3. High-level format each drive partition using FORMAT (a command on the DOS Program diskette). Refer to your DOS manual for details.

The drive is ready for operation.

Dimensions and Mounting

Caution

The mounting screws must be selected so that they do not penetrate the bottom mounting holes by more than 0.20 inches or the side mounting holes by more than 0.156 inches. Screws that are too long may short to PCBA components.

The drive uses industry-standard mounting (see figure below) for 3.5-inch, 1-inch high, disk drives.

Recommended orientation is vertical on either side, or horizontal with the Device Electronics board down; other mounting orientations may be used.

No matter what mounting orientation is used, Micropolis specifies the maximum allowable
RDA casting temperature to be 600C (1400F).
