This disk is not meant to run under any version of Windows. You must exit Windows before running this disk. 2. To run the SuperCharged Interface perform the following commands at a DOS prompt: C:> D: (ENTER) D:> GO (ENTER) (if d: is not the drive letter of your CD-ROM then replace d: with its drive) 3. Some of the programs on this disc require a premium amount of conventional RAM to work. Try using a minimum CONFIG.SYS configuration to get games to run. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quick Reference: - The LAUNCHER assumes you have already configured DOOM(tm)/HEXEN(tm) to work (sound, controls, etc.) using their SETUP.EXE programs. - When you first run the LAUNCHER or choose the "re-config" button you must show the LAUNCHER where your Doom(tm) 1 (or Ultimate Doom(tm)), Doom(tm) 2, and Hexen(tm) directories are; i.e. directories where the files DOOM.EXE, DOOM2.EXE and HEXEN.EXE are at. Note that you MUST OWN A REGISTERED COPY of each game to run its associated files. Also, if for some strange reason you changed any of the filenames of the Doom(tm)/Hexen(tm) executables the LAUNCHER will not work! - Choose "Doom(tm) 1 Files", "Doom(tm) 2 Files", or "Hexen(tm) Files"; the launcher will show the list of files for that mode. Default mode is Doom(tm) 2. - Click on a file you want to try/view/run a demo of. The LAUNCHER will then list all the levels contained in the file - Click on the 'View Info' button to read the TEXT FILE the author of the level wrote. We encourage you to contact them when they request it. - Click on "Run Demo" to see a play-tested preview of the level - Click on the various launch options (difficulty, multiplayer, etc.) as desired. See your Doom(tm)/Hexen(tm) manual if you are unfamiliar with these settings. - Click on "Launch" to play the level with these options. - Use the rating and category selectors to help you organize your favorite files; rate their quality and set the mode (SOLO, COOP, DEATHMATCH) they play best in. - Use the HIDE/SHOW buttons to isolate files of a certain type --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SuperCharged Xpansion Pack (DOOM(tm) & HEXEN(tm) Edition!) 1) Welcome & Acknowledgments 2) What this CD does 3) Notes on... A) Compatibility with the files and the Demos B) Multiplayer/Modem/Network C) Misc. (for hackers only) 1) Welcome Here is the SuperCharged Xpansion Pack; the ultimate DOOM(tm) & HEXEN(tm) supercharging tool! We must immediately acknowledge those whose creativity and talent in design made this CD possible. I'm talking about none other than id Software, Raven Software AND the hundreds of authors who painstakingly designed and tested these exceptional levels. The id Software and Raven Software wizards deserve eternal credit and thanks not only for creating the supreme gaming essence of the DOOM(tm) series and HEXEN(tm), but also for the open architecture design of their products. By leaving the back door open (or at least unlocked) they made it possible for anyone to make their own extension to the DOOM(tm) and HEXEN(tm) universe assuming they had the patience to learn how. Indeed a multitude had the patience as thousands of levels appeared on the Internet & BBS's worldwide. Graciously, these authors spent countless hours designing and tweaking these levels and yet released them at no cost and often with free distribution permissions as contained on this CD ROM. We created the SuperCharged Xpansion Pack with 3 goals: 1) Include hundreds of the best levels; each pre-tested and evaluated. 2) Provide LAUNCHER software that makes browsing and launching the levels quick and easy, yet powerful and versatile. 3) Provide it at the lowest possible cost for a limited time to let everyone ENTER THE CARNAGE... 2)What this CD does... The SuperCharged Xpansion Launcher Interface lets you browse & play through hundreds of carefully selected and PLAY-TESTED levels! Yes, indeed we tried each and every level on this CD and you can watch us testing them yourself because we recorded a DEMO FOR EACH AND EVERY LEVEL FILE! (some files have many levels that we were unable to play through because they don't have an exit for each level...) For each level, our easy to use LAUNCHER lets you PLAY it, VIEW its DEMO, RATE it on how much you like it, and CATEGORIZE the level as best played in Solo, DeathMatch or Cooperative modes. These RATINGS really make playing these levels more fun. The program color-codes the filenames so you can see what levels you haven't played yet, and quickly find levels you really like playing. You can even have the launcher HIDE levels to get your least favorite DOG FOOD levels out of the way. Likewise, you can CATEGORIZE the level as a SOLO, DEATHMATCH, or COOPERATIVE level, and HIDE/SHOW any of the categories. For instance you might want to see only levels that you think play well in SOLO mode. Just click the HIDE DEATHMATCH and HIDE COOPERATIVE buttons and you'll instantly have a list of the levels you liked playing in 1 player mode. If you've tried other DOOM(tm) accessory CD's you'll quickly appreciate how much nicer our color-coded, sorted list is compared to endless lists of forgotten filenames!!! 3) Notes on... A) Compatibility with the Files and the Demos We recorded the Demos using Doom(tm) version 1.9, Doom(tm) II version 1.9, and Hexen(tm) version 1.0. Older versions sometimes have problems playing recently written levels and Demos. If you have such problems, you can use update patches available widely on the Internet for free. id(tm) has them on their web site, http://www.idsoftware.com. It's a good idea to upgrade anyway, especially if you've gotten a version older than 1.7 for Doom(tm) or Doom(tm) II. B) Multiplayer/Modem/Network The launcher really doesn't have a lot to do with whether your network or modem games work. It simply tells the Doom(tm)/Hexen(tm) game about what kind of game you want to initiate. It's up to you to make sure that the ipx and network card drivers are ok (network game); or the MODEM.CFG file in the DOOM(tm)/HEXEN(tm) directory is set up properly (modem/null modem game). C) Misc. (for hackers only) - That little bar graph you see when running DOOM(tm) 1 levels is a frame rate performance indicator and its there because we run DOOM(tm) 1 in development mode (-devparam) because some of the parameters we set only work in this mode. DOOM(tm) II & Hexen(tm) don't need to be run in this mode to work... - When you pick a FILE sometimes there is a pause of several seconds. This is because the launcher scans each file for the levels it contains each time you pick it. - You can use INTERFACE to launch your own set of levels. Just copy the "BAT.EXE" file to the drive you have your *.WAD files on. It will look for Doom(tm) 1 files in "X:\Dm1Wads", Doom(tm) 2 files in "X:\Dm2Wads" and Hexen(tm) files in "X:\HxnWads" where 'X' is your drive letter. The launcher doesn't care which directory it is located in, so long as it's on the same drive as your WAD files. Please read the licensing section of this document for use limitations of the LAUNCHER. - The LAUNCHER makes a handful of really small files in a folder in the directory "C:\LAUNCHER". They are: "LAUNCH.BAT" - a batch file that the LAUNCHER generates every time you launch a game or run a demo. "LAUNCH.RSP" - a response file passed to IPXSETUP, SERSETUP or simply to Doom(tm)/Hexen(tm) with all the command line options. Also generated by the LAUNCHER every time you launch/run demo. "LAUNCH.INI" - an UNEDITABLE data file LAUNCHER uses to remember where your DOOM(tm)/HEXEN(tm) directories are. If you want to change these settings simply pick "re-config" or delete the file. "RATINGS.INI"- holds all the ratings and category assignments you've made. If you delete or corrupt this file you'll lose all the ratings you've made (all files will become UNRATED). (No, you don't get to choose where these files go.) So much for all this technical stuff, run the disc.
