================================================================ Title : Pistol.wad, a wad for Doom2. Filename : pistol.wad Author : Ennead Email Address : Ennead@student.umass.edu Misc. Author Info : Ennead lives in Amherst, Mass, with many housemates, an irish setter, and too much time on his hands. Story : A Mauser .486: the finest gun ever invented by man, God or demon. See how it gleams in the half-light! How beautiful its curves... like the smooth hip of a lover, except you can shoot people with it. My daddy had a gun just like it... how I loved that man! I haven't felt truly alive ever since that cyber-demon caught him with his pants down... Description : This wad replaces episode 1, is quite large, and features a lot of twisty passages, big rooms and violence. The layout is reasonably interesting; most things interconnect, one way or another. There aren't any misaligned textures - I hate seeing that - or pits that you can't get out of. There are a few secret areas, but none that you need to find to be able to complete the level. You do have to flip nearly all the switches, though. The "gimmick," I suppose, is that you'll have to go nearly the entire wad with nothing better than your trusty pistol (and guts of steel, natch). There's nothing here you can't kill - but you won't be able to kill everything, or finish every room, the first time you encounter it. If you hate wads in which you need to pay attention and dodge a lot, DON'T download this! Additional Credits to : The creators of deu, dck, wad1to2, bsp, rmb, and (especially) Doom2. Also, my many patient housemates, notably Paul, Charles, Kip, Matt, and Vince, who playtested, and Brad, who let me use his 486. ================================================================ * Play Information * Episode and Level # : Doom2 episode 1. Single Player : Yes Cooperative 2-4 Player : No Deathmatch 2-4 Player : No Difficulty Settings : YES! 1-2: Few monsters, lots of healing & ammo. Probably still to tough for beginners, though. What's the point? 3: More monsters, a bit less stuff. Fun carnage. 4-5: Many more monsters, much less stuff. Should be a challenge to all but the most invincible doom-gods - but it IS possible to do without cheating. It'll probably take more than one try, though. New Sounds : No New Graphics : No New Music : No Demos Replaced : None * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Editor(s) used : Deu, dck. Known Bugs : There are a couple of places where razor-thin vertical lines appear that I can't get rid of; they don't hinder play in any way. Time spent constructing : At least 50 hours (I work slow). * Copyright / Permissions * Authors may NOT use this level as a base to build additional single-player levels, but if anyone wants to modify this for multi-player or deathmatch use, feel free (but do let me know when you've done it). Pistol.wad is too big to make a good deathmatch, imo, but it might be fun played cooperatively. You MAY distribute this WAD, provided you include this file, with no modifications. You may distribute this file in any electronic format (BBS, Diskette, CD, etc) as long as you include this file intact. * Where to get this WAD * FTP sites: ftp.cdrom.com and its mirrors. ftp.idgames.com Please write and tell me what you thought of this wad.
