The reflection in the base of Mojo was just the same background image used as a global reflection map. Actually, it was a wider angle shot of the background. For the shadows, I rendered a separate scene where the two guys were completely white on a white plane. From there I took that shadow image and layered it on top of the background image using multiply compositing in Photoshop. This image was then used as the backdrop for rendering the two individuals over the shadows. The laser was all done in Photoshop. At the tail there's a Lensflare filter. Then I just used the line tool and applied it 2 more times with a Gaussian blur applied to it. The sparks were done by using a frame from a fireworks animation from the Pyromania CD. It was heavily skewed to make the sparks look like they were coming off of his hand. I also applied a smaller lensflare at the base of his hand to give it more of a glow. Now, if I was animating this, I would have done most of it in Imagine. But for a still image it's a lot quicker to use Photoshop for the effects.
