As i said previously i build all my own objects, the same applies here. The hardest object in the scene to build was the sette, you can,t see from the picture but there is also a chair in the scene but i didn,t like the composition so i left it out. The sette was built basically by creating paths and then molding and extruding shapes along the path. The clock and fire place were easy to build from the 6 provided primatives. Now for the textures, Firstly the sette, The base colour for the sette was a green, blue mixture. Two textures were used the noise bump and the terra texture, the attributes for each of the textures were adjusted until i got the desired effect. For the cussions the exact same textures apply except i gave them a cream base colour and the attributes were slightly different, again to gain the desired effect. For the coal i tried different textures and shapes until i came up with the effect you see in the picture, which i think is quite realistic. I firstly created asteroid shaped objects to act as coal which were moved into various positions, a base colour red and a brightness of 125 were applied. The fire texture was then applied and adjusted until you get the effect you are after. Behind the coal a plane was applied to get the effect of flames, the same red base colour and fire texture were added, scale the fire texture to increase or decrease the flame intensity. A reddish light was placed behind the plane to give the effect of light being cast by the fire. A reddish fill in light was placed at the top of the room to decrease some of the harsh shadows. I left the two harsh shadows you can see as they were because i wanted the picture to emphasize the light coming from the fire and not from a lightsource within the room. The pictures on the wall were created in vistapro and applied to a plane as a brush map. The steam engine on top of the fireplace was built by me when i had my amiga a couple of years ago, at the time i thought it looked quite good but now it,s best viewed from a distance. The overall scene took approx three and a half hours to raytrace on a pentium 120 with 48 meg of ram.
