Insert the Exploring Computers CD-ROM in your CD drive. 2. Click the Start button, then click Run. 3. Type D:\setup (where D is your CD Drive letter). 4. Press Enter. 1.2 Windows 3.1 installation 1. Insert the Exploring Computers CD-ROM in your CD drive. 2. With Program Manager active, select the File menu and choose the Run command. 3. Type D:\setup (where D is your CD Drive letter). 4. Press Enter. ---2.0 Minimum System Requirements Windows 3.1 or later 486 processor or higher 8 MB RAM 256 color video adapter Double-speed CD-ROM drive 16 bit sound card ---3.0 Troubleshooting If you are running Exploring Computers: A Record of Discovery under Windows95 and the Exploring Computers icon does not appear in the start menu: 1. Right-click the taskbar. 2. Click Properties. 3. Turn on the check box labeled "show small icons in start menu." 4. Click Apply. 5. Click OK. ---3.2 "Script Error, Frame Not Defined" error message. This error message will display under the following circumstances: 1) If you attempt to click on any button, or advance the program, when the hourglass is displayed on the monitor. 2) If you click on several buttons in rapid succession not allowing the computer the time necessary to access the next sequence on the CD-ROM. If this error occurs, simply click the "next" button, or press the arrow cursor key (->) to continue. To prevent this error message from occurring, do not attempt to click on any buttons or advance the program with the cursor arrow keys while the hourglass is displayed on the monitor. Also, do not click on several buttons in rapid succession without allowing the computer the access time required to display information contained on the CD-ROM. ---3.3 Wave Sound in Windows 95. If audio does not play, or abruptly cuts out after the opening animation, the problem may be the Wave Sound Volume setting. To correct: 1) Open Windows 95 Volume Control 2) Set the Sound Wave Volume above "2", the second tick mark from the bottom. This will allow "Exploring Computers" to play audio at the normal volume. ---4.0 Printing Questions Each Exploring Computers lab is accompanied by a set of questions that can be used for homework or tests. These questions are contained in text files in the root directory of the Exploring Computers CD-ROM and are named according to the lab number (e.g., Lab1.txt accompanies the "Using the Mouse" lab).
