Ave patilarga color rosa brillante con el pico en forma de espßtula. Tama±o: 70-90 cm.; peso: 1,200-1,800 g. Audio (M. Oberle). Un visitante raro en Puerto Rico, aunque es com·n en La Espa±ola. Anida desde el sur de Texas hasta el norte de la Argentina y en Cuba y La Espa±ola. Se alimenta barriendo el agua o el fango de lado a lado con el pico. Detectores de vibraci≤n dentro del pico detectan la presencia de alimento. En a±os recientes se ha visto varias veces en el Refugio de Vida Silvestre de Boquer≤n, tratßndose probablemente de individuos que se dispersan de La Espa±ola.

TAXONOMÍA: CICONIIFORMES; THRESKIORNITHIDAE; Plataleinae. Antiguamente en el gΘnero Ajaia.
