Larger than the common migrant Belted Kingfisher, this species has more extensive rufous brown underparts. Length: 40 cm.; weight: 255-426 g. Audio (G. Lasley). Breeds from southern Texas to South America and on Dominica, Martinique and Guadeloupe. Accidental in Puerto Rico (e.g., Culebra, early 1990s). TAXONOMY: ALCEDINIDAE; Cerylinae
