A white face and chestnut colored breast distinguish this duck species. Immature birds have a gray face and neck, with a duller chestnut breast. Length: 38-48 cm.; weight: 502-820 g. Nests in tropical South America from Colombia and Venezuela south to Uruguay, also in Africa. Accidental on Hispaniola but may occur in Puerto Rico in the future.
