Olive gray above, with the head being darker; the lighter underparts are gray or yellowish. Length: 15-16 cm. This active flycatcher vibrates its tail right after perching. Endemic to forests (especially pines) and coffee plantations on Hispaniola from sea level to 2,000 m. Accidental on Mona Island.

TAXONOMY: PASSERIFORMES; TYRANNIDAE; Fluvicolinae. This species was formerly lumped by taxonomists with the Jamaican Pewee (Contopus pallidus) of Jamaica, and the Cuban Pewee (Contopus caribaeus) of Cuba and the Bahamas.
