A mottled brown nightbird with a white chin and throat. The male has extensive white on the tail. Somewhat similar to the Puerto Rican Nightjar, but only identified well in the hand. The call is a distinctive whistle. Length: 20-23 cm.; weight: 25-46 g. Native to northern South America, Costa Rica, Panama and Martinique. Accidental on Puerto Rico (23 Nov 1974).
