A small, reddish-brown marsh bird with gray cheeks and black and white barring on the sides. Resembles a smaller version of the Clapper Rail. Length: 20-25 cm.; weight: 64-124 g. Audio (M. Oberle). Breeds from southern Canada through Central America to coastal Peru. An accidental winter visitor to marshes in Puerto Rico.
