A long-winged seabird with a black cap; light below and dark above. Length: 43-51 cm.; weight: 715-950 g. Breeds on islands in the South Atlantic Ocean and then migrates in a clockwise circle through the Caribbean and North Atlantic. An uncommon visitor mostly in May to July. Although usually reported far offshore, individuals have been documented less than 2 miles from shore, and several fresh carcasses have been found at Culebra and cays off La Parguera.
