Robo-Dungeon

The year is 2064... The place is 1 mile beneath the city of Los Angeles. Due to a computer error, you were found guilty of a crime you did not commit, and have been imprisoned in a maximum security subterranean prison.

An earthquake has occurred, leaving the prison levels littered with stone blocks, you have been placed in the lowest level, and must make your way to the surface by reaching the exit on each level, the problem is the automated robot guards that will try to hunt you down.

There are 20 levels and each is larger than the previous and contains more robots. You start with a few bombs that can be used to destroy the stone blocks and robots, and a short range teleporter.

Upon completing each level you will gain some bombs and warps. You also have a mapping device that will show the layout of the current level.

The game contains 999 different dungeons each with 20 levels.

You begin with 9 lives.

When you select "New game" you will be asked to select "Dungeon Number:", choose which set of 20 levels you wish to play, now select "Difficulty:" if set to 0 the robots will move only when you move, if set greater than 0 they will move even when you are standing still, 1 being the least often, 10 being the most often, this sets the game difficulty, 0=easy, 10=hard.

You start each level at the bottom left corner and must make your way to the exit at the top right corner.

When you reach the exit on the 20th level you will have escaped the prison and completed the game.

Which keys to use

Use the cursor (arrow) keys or Q-Z-I-P to move up, down, left, and right, use a single key press for each move, if you hold down a key too long it will auto repeat and a robot may get you before you know what has happened.

Hold "Fn" & press the cursor or Q-Z-I-P keys to bomb a block or robot if one is next to you (the outer wall can't be bombed).

"W" warps you to a random location in the bottom left quarter of the level.

"M" activates your mapping device, this shows the current level, your position is show by a flashing dot, pressing any key then deactivates it.

"Enter" makes you wait, i.e. the robots attempt to move.

"Esc" activates the self detonation device implanted into your skull (you lose a life, but gain a bomb and a warp, handy when your path to the exit is blocked, and you have run out of bomb's).

How to win

Start playing with robot mobility set to 0 until you get the hang of the game.

Watch the robots behaviour carefully, they are not very intelligent, once you learn to predict and manipulate their movement you will do well.

Only bomb robots when absolutely necessary some levels have more blocks than others, and you will need to save bombs from levels with few blocks for those with many.

Use the map to plan a route through the level that uses the least bombs.

Scoring

When you run out of lives, Points are given for the number of levels completed (x 50) and the number of bombs and warps remaining (x 5), if you complete the game points are also given for lives remaining (x 100), this is totalled, and your final score is total x (difficulty +1). So to get a really high score, play with difficulty set to 10. If your score is high enough your name will be entered into the high score table.
