═══ 1. 1. Read Me First ═══ Heli Rescue is a multilevel action game. You fly a helicopter in an enemy battlefield. To pass each level, you must destroy all enemy targets and rescue all hostages. The hostages are rescued when you transport all of them to the base (the yellow pad). This is the shareware version of Heli Rescue. You can play the game for a reasonable period of time and decide if you like it. If you are not interested in this game, please give it to a friend or somebody you feel may be interested, and delete the game from you hard disk. If you like the game and decide to keep it, send $10 dollars to K-Soft to register the game and show your support and endorsement. Then the game is yours to keep. We will send you five more levels and keep you posted for future new versions when they become avialable. If you need more challenge, we have it! The retail version of Heli Rescue comes with twenty different and exciting battlefields. These battlefields are carefully designed to give you the greatest challenge an arcade game can offer. They force you to make important strategic decisions on how to handle the attacks, the rescue missions, which enemy to kill first etc. The simulator mode will get you hooked for many hours on brave rescue missions. Here you will explore the loops, inverted flight, and other top-gun dog-figth techniques, because without them your helicopter will be immediately destroyed... Get this game and have all twenty battlefields in your collection. To order the retail version, send $15 to the following address: K-Soft 9879 Cedar Court Cypress, CA 90630 With the retail version you will also receive a Record/Play feature to record your missions and play them back to your friends, or simply enjoy how good you are. If you are interested in creating new battlefields, order the advanced point-and-click Visual Level Editor. Modify the existing battlefields or create your own completely new levels - it is all under your control. Incorporate custom bitmaps, have total control over the game levels and every single object - all of that without programming any code ! You even get a license to distribute all levels you create royalty free ! Order Heli Rescue Professional for just $45 and get the advanced game builder we used to create this exciting game. ═══ 2. 2. Controlling the Helicopter ═══ The game has two very different options to control the helicopter: Arcade type control Flight Simulator type control To select the type of control you want, click on Set Control Type entry from Action pull down menu. Each control type uses different keyboard keys. The arcade type control is easier to start with. The flight simulation type control will let you control the helicopter in a more realistic way, simulating the flying behavior of a real helicopter. To learn this type of control takes some time and willingness to understand the basics of the helicopter flight. ═══ 3. 3. Arcade type control keys ═══ Right hand - numerical keypad: *** Num Lock must be OFF ! *** 8 - Up/Rotate Up 2 - Down/Rotate Down 4 - Forward/Speed Up 6 - Backwards/Slow Down Left hand: *** Caps Lock must be OFF ! *** a - fire cannon s - drop bomb d - increase the top speed f - decrease the top speed p - pause the game and release the mouse Note: Up,Down,Backwards work only when the helicopter is in horizontal flight. Rotate Up and Rotate Down are active at high speed (4 pressed 2 or more times). ═══ 4. 4. Flight Simulator control keys ═══ Right hand - numerical keypad: *** Num Lock must be OFF ! *** 8 - Increase the thrust 2 - Decrease the thrust 4 - Tilt forward 6 - Tilt backwards 5 - Set the thrust equal to the weight Left hand: *** Caps Lock must be OFF ! *** a - fire cannon s - drop bomb p - pause the game/release the mouse (if the mouse control is ON) How Does A Real Helicopter Fly? Simulator - First Lessons Simulator - Help Tips ═══ 5. 5. How Does A Real Helicopter Fly ? ═══ The main rotor generates the thrust. When the thrust is greater than the helicopter weignt, the helicopter takes off. The helicopter can stay in hover only when the thrust is equal to the weight. If the helicopter is in hover, and the main rotor is tilted forward, a portion of the generated lift is pointed backwards, giving the helicopter some forward acceleration. After some time, the helicopter will start to accelerate in a forward direction. To stop it in hover again, the main rotor must be tilted backwards. Then, a portion of the lift force is applied forward, giving the helicopter a relative backward deceleration. The helicopter then will slow down and stop. If the tilt is still backward, it will start to accelerate backwards. To stop it, the rotor must be tilted forward etc. Helicopters are inherently unstable machines and controlling them is similar to balancing a short stick on the tip of your finger - you are constantly involved in preventing the stick from falling down. Once the helicopter gets moving in the direction the pilots wants, all forces have to be equalized in order to sustain the nonaccelerating movement. In addition, there are some aerodynamical forces which also affect the helicopter flight. This game gives you a simplified, but realistic enough control of a small helicopter. A model RC helicopter pilot will find that the controls are very similar to (and much easier than) the model RC helicopters. It is very, very hard (and expensive) to learn to fly a model helicopter. With this game we combine the fun of a realistic sumulation, the challenge of the helicopter's flight and the arcade type battlefield action. We hope you will enjoy the game. ═══ 6. 6. Simulator - First Lessons ═══ This applies only if you have selected flight simulator controls. Lesson 1 - Learn to control the helicopter in vertical direction 1. Load the first level 2. Press 8 (Increase the thrust) once. The thrust will increase and will get greater than the helicopter weight. The helicopter will slowly start to accelerate upward. 3. Press 5 (Set thrust=weight). The helicopter will continue going up because of the inertia it has gained. After a while the air resistance will stop it in a stable hover because the thrust is equal to its weight. 4. To go a little bit down, press 2 (decrease the thrust) and right after the heli start moving press 5 (Set thrust=weight). Then wait for the heli to stop. Lesson 2 - Move forward and backward 1. Get the helicopter in stable hover in the middle of the screen 2. Tilt the helicopter forward. Some of the lifting force will be applied in the back, and the heli will start accelerate moving forward. 3. Tilt the heli backward in a leveled position. The air resistance will slow it down at it will stop. Once you get the idea on how the helicopter behaves try tilting the helicopter a little bit more for faster forward flight. Then learn how tilting backwards helps you stop the helicopter faster. The more confident you get, the more control you can apply. Do not press multiple keys at the beginning, it will easily get out of control! ═══ 7. 7. Simulator - Help Tips ═══ 1. Do not press multiple keys at the beginning. 2. Separate the vertical controls from the horizontal controls, unless your confidence in the controls is high. 3. Do not speed up too much. 4. Pressing 5 is VERY helpful. Example: You want to gain some height very fast. Therefore, you press 8 (up) a couple of times (let's say 5 times). When the helicopter gains the speed you needed you will want to stop the helicopter. To do so, you have to press 2 (down) five times just to go to neutralise it, and then again five times to get a negative force. Much better is the sequence: press 5 (set thrust=weight), then press five times 2(down), then at the very moment the heli stops, pres 5 to stabilize it in hover. 5. If you press 5 when the helicopter is inverted, it will set a negative thrust equal to the weight, therefore instantly helping you to keep flying inverted. Just keep in mind, that 8 and 2 will work in reverse. ═══ 8. 8. Using the Mouse to control the helicopter ═══ The mouse can be used to control the helicopter the very same way the Up, Down, Left and Right keys are used. The left mouse button fires the cannon and the right mouse button drops the bombs. m - mouse control on/off n - mouse pointer on/off c - increase Right/Left mouse sensitivity x - decrease Right/Left mouse sensitivity u - increase Up/Down mouse sensitivity y - decrease Up/Down mouse sensitivity p - pause and mouse release Note: the game starts with maximum mouse sensitivity. You may need to use x and y keys to get the desired control response.
