General Notes: - You cannot mark an article while any media asset (photographs, movies, audio clips) is open on the screen. Close the media asset first before attempting to mark an article. - Search engine: You can search for a phrase, such as "Security Council", but the search will be much faster if you search for two independent terms, such as "Security" AND "Council". You can automatically enter a word from an article into the Search engine by Shift-clicking on the word. The Passport will then open with the word already entered. However, due to limitations in the way that text is handled, terms that end with punctuation will not be properly identified in the Search feature. In this case, delete the punctuation from the end of the word in the Search field(s). - Glossary: The Glossary is accessible from within the Passport. As a convenience, you can automatically check the Glossary for a word in an article by Ctrl-clicking on the word. However, due to limitations in the way that text is handled, terms that end with punctuation will not be properly identified in the Glossary. In this case, scroll down the alphabetical Glossary list to find the term you are looking for. - User names: During the startup of HOTSPOTS you will be prompted for a user name. This name is stored in a preferences file on your hard drive so that your Quiz progress and score is retained between sessions. - QuickTime VR: You may experience a short delay before the cursor responds when you first look at a QuickTime VR movie in the Visit the UN section. This is normal, as the computer is preloading information from the CD. Macintosh Notes: - The Highlight Color in the Color control panel must be set to Black & White for the highlighting of text within lists to function correctly. - System errors: If you experience System Errors while running HOTSPOTS, you may have an extension conflict. While we have tested a variety of common extensions in conjunction with HOTSPOTS, we cannot guarantee that there are no esoteric and badly-behaving extensions out there somewhere! If you suspect an extension problem, try disabling non-Apple system extensions using Extensions Manager or Conflict Catcher.
