The Smithsonian: America's Treasure House of Learning

The only thing more awe inspiring than the storehouse of knowledge kept within the walls of the Smithsonian Institute is how much of it has been transferred to its Web site, which includes hundreds of links, access to museum library catalogs, lists of suggested readings on many subjects, and answers to frequently asked questions on many topics, including Egyptian mummies. Initially, students may find it a tad difficult to navigate around the site. The site also includes a map of the National Mall, lists of exhibits, a calendar of events, and museum profiles to help you learn more about the Smithsonian and plan trips, while the Smithsonian Encyclopedia and a list of frequently asked questions aid those researching historical events and scientific discoveries.

"This is a stop not to be missed." Connie Spurlock, William H. Harrison High School, Harrison, OH.
