The Sikhism Home Page

A religion with over 20 million followers, Sikhism plays an important role on the Indian subcontinent and elsewhere. Information is found here on the origins and development of Sikhism, the Sikh way of life, its philosophy and scriptures, and its history. The site provides the basics necessary to understand Sikh devotion and teachings as well as links to related sites. Since Sikhs believe in ten Gurus rather than one Supreme Being, each Guru has a separate section summarizing his beliefs. One includes the selected writings of the Sri Guru Granth Saheb. Students will find especially useful a comparison with other world religions and a discussion on Sikh views on women. Photos are provided of the major Sikh temples in the Punjab. There is also a short summary of the 1984 attack on the Golden Temple at Amritsar.
