The Rosenberg Communiqués

This site explores the case of the only civilians ever executed for treason by the U.S. Government during peacetime. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were put to death in 1953 in Sing Sing Prison for providing the Soviet Union with atomic bomb secrets. With the release of decoded cables pertaining to the case in recent years, there has been renewed interest in the case. The page provides information in the form of a hyperlinked chronology of the twenty cables on the Rosenbergs released by the National Security Agency. For each date, the visitor can bring up a GIF image of the actual cable, note the date of the most recent decoding effort, and find a listing of each KGB codename with that person's real identity if known. There is also information on others mentioned in the Soviet cables and methods that were used over the years to crack the complex codes.
