How Our Laws Are Made

This Web site is the hypertext version of the twenty-second edition of a work originally written and published in 1953. Its content was revised in January 1997 to reflect the legislative processes of the 105th Congress. The document consists entirely of text. It describes the steps in the Federal lawmaking process, from the origin of an idea for a legislative proposal through its enactment as a law. Emphasis is on the House of Representatives, although the Senate procedure is also covered. Viewers can browse the document sequentially or access individual chapters from a clickable table of contents. A good source for high school students.
