Historical, Social, Economic, and Demographic Data from the U.S. Decennial Census

This site is an excellent resource for learning about early America. Information about the U.S. population, racial and ethnic makeup, and economic data of all types can be culled from this site. It contains not only all the census data from 1790-1860, but also essays that detail the history of the census and census taking, and images of the original census forms. This site has a sophisticated form-based search engine; at first it may seem fairly complicated, but once you get the hang of it it is an effective way to narrow and specify your search to return the exact information you want.
