Ellis Island

This handsome site will be of interest to many students, as it is estimated that nearly 40 percent of all Americans can trace their ancestry through Ellis Island. The site follows immigrants from their shipboard journey through their detentions, inspections, and permissions to leave the island for their final destinations. A comprehensive oral history project, many photographs, and a look at Ellis Island today complete the site.
