Eli Whitney Armory Site

The Eli Whitney Armory site has been the subject of archeological study since 1972. This Web site is a record of the ongoing digs at the Armory. The archeological site is divided into two sections: one is the area dating from 1859 thought to be the Case Hardening Shop; the other is a domestic area where factory workers were housed. The cleverly designed Web site explores the two digs and analyzes artifacts found at each site. Students will also find a biography of Eli Whitney, a slide show of the Armory site using historic photographs, and a short timeline that gives a capsule history of the site.
