Celebrating Democracy

A site combining information on the 1997 presidential inauguration with information on past inaugurations, elections, presidents, and their wives. Several links bring the visitor to Smithsonian exhibits pertaining to Presidents and First Ladies, including their photos and biographies. Other topics include how First Ladies have handled their political roles and public images and the general transition of women from "parlor to politics." The visitor can take an Inaugural Quiz to test his or her knowledge or link to the Electoral College Home Page. In another category, since the page is a collaboration among several agencies, links are provided relating to presidential and federal involvement with the arts.
