Cartographic Communication

This site likens maps to a special purpose language for describing spatial relationships. Using this analogy the site's creators explore the ways maps can be used to communicate. The site is divided into eight sections that can be accessed sequentially or at random. Some of the topics covered are What Is a Good Map?, Basic Elements of Map Composition, The Cartographer's Palette, and Into the Future. Many maps are displayed as examples at this interesting and unusual site.
