American Originals

The original documents of the U.S. government which have been identified as having permanent value have been preserved and made available to the public at the National Archives. This Web site is based on an exhibit of such documents. American Originals contains a selection of some of the most significant and compelling documents from the National Archive's holdings. Each document is briefly described and an image of the original is presented. Drawings or photographs are also included with most documents; there is even an audio clip of John F. Kennedy's Berlin speech. The documents range in time from the Revolutionary period to Richard M. Nixon's presidency.
