Colonial American Newspapers: 1690-1776

This site presents a selection of the first American newspapers. All were published in Boston beginning in 1689. At present the site includes five newspapers and promises more to come. There is interesting background information about each paper and an image (very large) of the first edition of each. One of the papers includes a "society" column by Benjamin Franklin writing as "Silence Dogood." The site also includes links to other colonial history sites and to two antique newspaper dealers.
