Big Trouble in Earthquake County

This site offers activities for students that explore the effects of earthquakes. Presented in a question and answer format, it covers topics such as: What would happen to local dams, reservoirs, and water supply stations? How would an earthquake affect important government buildings and electrical power generation plants? Would your school or home have sustained any damage, and if so, to what degree? Part A of the activities is Background Information on Earthquakes, Earthquake Hazard Maps, Earthquake Safety, and Disaster Management. Part B studies geology and how it affects earthquakes. Part C is a Hypothetical Earthquake that raises the questions posed above. Part D covers Earthquake Preparedness and Hazard Reduction, and Part E is Conclusions. The activities take about four hours to complete. There are two activities offered: one for San Francisco Bay Area students and one for students who live elsewhere.
