La Grotte Cosquer

The prehistoric cave featured here and recently discovered near Marseilles can only be visited through this site as its entrance is underwater and permanently closed. The site provides clear and easy-to-understand explanations about the magnificent wall paintings(27,000 to 19,000 BC) and a 3-D representation of the cave, which makes it possible to take a virtual tour. A clickable map enables visitors to view pictures of the prehistoric paintings.
