The Walt Whitman Collection

This homepage links to images of four notebooks and a cardboard butterfly of Whitman's. The items were stolen in 1942 from the Thomas Biggs Harned Walt Whitman Collection housed in the Library of Congress, and returned in 1995. For those thrilled with seeing the unadorned pages of an author's private musings, the links are worth a visit. The notebooks will be of interest to students seeking primary sources for papers on Whitman or teachers seeking interesting anecdotes for classroom instruction. Note: a valuable link on the page is the Learning Page of the Library of Congress.
