Romancing the Indian

This small site is devoted to a comparison of how James Fenimore Cooper and Mark Twain treated Native Americans in their works. There are quotes and interpretations given for Cooper's Last of the Mohicans and Notions of the Americans. Several of Twain's works are included The Nobel Red Man and the depiction of Injun Joe in Tom Sawyer are two. The site would be an excellent stop for the student reading these works to get the authors' views on Native Americans
