The Electronic Beowulf

The digitization of the eleventh-century Beowulf manuscript, the first great English literary masterpiece, has enabled more scholars to view the document and has also provided new insights. This Web site allows the student to view the eighteenth-century transcripts of the manuscript, selections from nineteenth-century collations, fiber optic readings of hidden letters, and ultraviolet readings of text erased in the early eleventh-century manuscript. The site plans to add images of contemporary manuscript illuminations as well.
