The Brown University Women Writers Project

The sponsors of this site state their mission is to create a state-of-the-art electronic database of writing by women before 1830. They appear well on their way to accomplishing this feat. However, there is one problem: rights to the two hundred or more texts must be purchased, generally for three to fifteen dollars. This requirement is necessary because Brown University is in a unique arrangement with Oxford University Press. Resources linked from this page allow access to discussion groups and essays on some of the works, directly through a link. For students, this is a good place to locate an obscure work to impress your teacher. For teachers, this is a good place to uncover a unique work testifying to the broad range of writing by women from an era textbook publishers have largely ignored.
