Alpha Draconis, "Thuban", was once the
pole star, in the place of Polaris due 
to precession. Its closest approach was 
around 2830 BC when it passed a mere 10
minutes from the true pole. (Polaris is 
48 minutes away). Thuban is a 
spectroscopic binary with a period of 
51.38 days.
