Once I finished my Shiryu Shrine, I realised that there was another Saint of Athena who deserved the same attention. This Saint is Ikki, the Phoenix Saint.

When I was a child, I hated Phoenix Ikki. His arrogance, his pride, his overpowering masculinity got on my nerves. What's more, he was unable to be kind with the others. All in all, I was unable to understand him truly. Yet as years passed, I slowly started to learn more about him, and started to appreciate him. Perhaps this change is due to a person that I know in real life, who bears resemblance with him. Perhaps it was as I grew up that I discovered that all Ikki's faults were also qualities, and that I could admire his pride and masculinity. Perhaps it was since I started being interested in pyschology that I realised that Phoenix was a very interesting case to study.

Ikki is a difficult character to grasp. He was the first enemy of our four favourite Bronze Boys (the second, according to the manga, where Hyoga was the first villain), and his mind was full of hatred and anger. This caused a lot of viewers to fear him, and to dislike him. Yet we discover that not only Ikki had a reason for such hatred, but also that his heart contained kindness and love for his brothers.

Since then, Ikki has taken the first place in my heart, to poor Shiryu's loss. The passion of Ikki's love, the sadness of his destiny, the harshness that disguises tenderness... all these things touch me, and make me adore Ikki.

Phoenix Wings is a temple dedicated to Ikki, where you shall find an image gallery, music related to Ikki, quotes on him and a MS Plus! Theme.
