Welcome to the Movie Select Video Selection System.  Movie Select was 
designed to provide information to help enhance your video rental 
experience.

Getting Started - A 4MB memory configuration is most desireable for any 
multimedia application and Movie Select is no exception. 

Movie Select has many digital movies and uses QuickTime for Windows 1.1 
for playback.  For optimal playback performance, a SuperVGA video adapter 
supporting 8-bit color is recommended.  Playback performance on a low end
386 with 8 bit video might be sluggish.

If you have 16 or 24 bit video and would like to watch the QuickTime movies at 
greater bit depth than 8, copy the Movie Select program to your hard drive.  
Running from the CD in high color is not recommended.  

Using the Movie Select System - for a quick overview of Movie Select click
on the "Help" button on the Main Menu. Then settle back and watch the 
short movie.  Otherwise just follow the instructions on each screen; the 
Movie Select system is simple and intuitive.

Search Preferences - when searching for a particular movie title in the 
you can select specific categories to include or exclude. These categories
are only applied when searching by movie title. Search preferences are 
also applied to the Movie Title page in the Hollywood Guide. In this way 
you could select categories and page through Children's titles or sports 
titles only.

About the Movie Select Selection System

How does it work? Hundreds of moviegoers were interviewed to get their 
list of favorite movies. Movie Select Video Selection System uses 
artificial intelligence techniques to match you to people who have similar
taste. It's like having a panel of people whose taste you really trust 
always available to recommend movies.

When you select movies in the first two screens of the recommendation 
system you are providing the system information to locate people in the 
database who have similar taste. By varying the movies you select you will
influence the ultimate recommendations, however this is not a "linear" 
effect. In other words if you attempt to skew the recommendations to a 
particular type of movie through the selections you make in the first two
screens, you will be surprised by the result. Movie Select uses a 
technique called "fuzzy logic" which is common in artificial intelligence
systems. Fuzzy logic has an equalizing effect on your selection because 
the system is finding people who match your taste and mood rather than 
doing a categorical search for movie titles. The bottom line is don't try
to "out-think" the system.  Just make your selections based on your mood 
and enjoy your videos!
