Put simply, AFS is the ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME.

AFS is an international educational exchange organization that offers you the
Incredible Experience of living among the locals in another country
.

Instead of being a tourist, you are part of a community.

As an AFSer you:

stay with a host family which has generously opened their home and hearts to you

attend a local school where you make friends for life and learn to appreciate
different world views and attitudes

discover the treasures of a host country from an insider's point of view

often come away from the AFS experience equipped with a foreign language
that can only serve to help you in an increasingly global world

What does AFS stand for?

AFS Intercultural Programs owes its origin to the American Field Service, an organization of volunteer ambulance drivers which formed shortly after the outbreak of World War I . AFS's history has ultimately led to what we're doing today...

Where can I go on AFS Programs?

At the moment AFS programs are available in 55 countries around the world - and that number is GROWING! We really do intend to make the world a smaller place! Are you going to help us?

What exactly are the Programs that AFS offers?

Because AFS countries are nearly as diverse as the AFSers they exchange, the programs offered vary. Check out our Programs to see what suits you the best!

The most popular ones are the:

YEAR PROGRAM: lasts about one year - AFS's most popular option.

SEMESTER PROGRAM: lasts about six months over an academic semester.

INTENSIVE PROGRAM: lasts from one to three months, usually during a break in the academic school year.
