You're only limited by your imagination, and AFS opens up a world of adventure by offering exchange programs in 55 countries. AFS programs present a variety of choices, allowing 10,000 participants annually to adjust program focus according to their individual needs. AFS programs are carried out by TKV (Turkish Cultural Foundation) dedicated to the promotion of intercultural understanding through quality programs for high school students, with more than 300 active volunteers.

What programs are offered?

The Year Program (YP), far and away AFS's most popular option, is a year-long educational exploration of another country's culture. The AFS Year Program student lives with a host family, attends a local school and becomes involved in community activities. Students completely immerse themselves in another culture by nurturing relationships with the local community, speaking the local language and taking part in their daily routines. Host school attendance is required, not optional, for Year Program participants.

16-18 year old high school students may obtain detailed information from their school administration regarding the programs.

The Summer Program lasts about 4 to 8 weeks during the summer time. 15-18 year old students may select from a number of options, including a traditional homestay, a concentrated language program, an outdoor education program or a cultural studies program.

Hosting experience; host-families are welcome to open their doors and hearts by hosting an exchange student in Turkey for either a week, a month, 6 months or a year. You'll get a lot of support, an interesting program for your family, and a new family member for life! Applications are accepted year round.
