AFS is a well-known organization in Peru that has been active since 1958, based on the work of a strong volunteer structure. There are eight active local chapters located in two regions. Piura, Trujillo, Lima and Chincha on the coast and Huaraz, Huancayo, Arequipa and Cusco in the mountains. 100 volunteers support AFS programs and activities.

INTEGRATION PROGRAM: This is a domestic program that is offered to teenagers to promote leadership and understanding of the diverse and rich Peruvian culture. The program includes workshops on different issues, such as conservation, gender roles, health care, children rights, theater, community service and a domestic exchange. The length of the program is four months from May through August.

YEAR PROGRAM SENDING: This is a one-year program. Seventeen-year-old Peruvian students are being sent for one year to countries such as: USA, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Jamaica, and Sweden. They attend school and live with a family. The program runs from August through July.

YEAR PROGRAM HOSTING: 16-18-year-old students come to Peru on a Year Program basis. They attend school in the fifth year of secondary, live with a family and are engaged in a community service project. They all benefit from the enrichment activities provided by the Integration Program and have the chance to visit the famous Inca city of Macchu Picchu.

SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAM: 18- 25-year-old participants come to Peru for four or six months. They have a volunteer stage in an NGO (Non- governmental organization) that provides social services to children living at risk. The program is offered twice a year, beginning in February and September.
