The sight gag, the
one-liner, the insult, the fart joke ... all of these joke gems play an important part of a comic's arsenal.
But who created them? How did they catch on so fast? Why does everyone laugh at someone farting? While we can't explain the origins of "humorous flatulence," we can honor those pioneer who have toiled, strived and strained to improve their art and give us new reasons to point and laugh.
Except fart jokes, I still don't see how that's funny.
