Hailuoto

An area of 1000 inhabitants on the greatest island of the Northern Gulf of Bothnia (200 km2).

An enchanting sea destination: magnificent beaches, numerous shore fishing villages, dunes formed by sea and wind, numerous species of bird, clean nature, sea fish and fresh sea breeze which is transformed into electricity. Hailuoto - new and old in harmony, the island community close to the town of Oulu welcomes you !

Hailuoto is one of Finland"s most significant cultural scenery spots - one of 27 such spots designated by the Ministry for the Environment as 'under protection for the next generation'. For a variety of reasons the Hailuoto region is regarded as being a δliving museum".

Looking on the more modern side, Hailuoto has a harbour for 120 visiting boats along with a wind energy park in Marjaniemi. This place comes to life during the summer... fishermen enliven the shores with freshly caught fish, the tourists colour the area buying fish --- this is the summer milieu where the boat visitor can enjoy.

Fresh fish - Baltic herring, whitefish, salmon - are the RANTASUMPPU fish restaurant specialities with its good service and quality assurance.

One of the Hailuoto tourist benefits is also the ferry trip. The modern, large ships 'Merisilta' and 'Meriluoto' guarantee a smooth journey with a capacity of about 100 cars an hour.
